A Yombe African spoon with the handle carved as an anthropomorphic figure, the small face, slit eyes and diminutive nose and mouth. Excellent condition considering age.
Like Dan spoons, some Yombe ceremonial spoons are used by the elected “most hospitable woman of the village” to distribute cooked rice to fellow villagers after the rice harvest. The feast spoon illustrates and underscores the value placed upon human and crop fertility for continuity.
