CATALOGUE NOTE:

The  Suku people live in the southwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.  Numerous well-carved Suku divination cups are found in a shape based on a particular gourd sliced in half. This results in two oval mouths with a small bridge in between, incised decorations appear on both sides. The Suku divination cup would have been passed down in a matrilinear succession and generations of use resulted in the shiny old patinas that are the characteristic.
